WOMEN'S HEALTH

Cervical Screening Test

The Cervical Screening Test (CST) has replaced the old Pap smear test. It detects the high-risk strains of the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) which cause the majority of cervical cancers. As it is more accurate the routine screening frequency is now 5 years (the Pap smear was every 2 years). The procedure however is essentially the same. The sample will be collected during a speculum vaginal examination. Swabs for common STIs such as chlamydia and gonorrhoea can be taken at the same time.

Breast Health

Breast Screen Victoria provides free screening mammograms to women aged 50 years to 74 years with no breast symptoms every two years. It is important to self examine your breasts regularly for any changes. If you find any or have other breast symptoms such as pain or nipple discharge to see your GP to be examined and probably referred on for further tests. For more information and nearby centres for screening: https://www.breastscreen.org.au/
